This is my first web site, what do I put on it?

It all depends on what you want your visitors to see. If you run a business, you will want as much information about your business as possible.

Personal web sites are the same, if you have a family tree web site you will want all your family information and so forth so that others can find out that information. We do not advise personal information on those sorts of web sites.
