A domain name is an unique alphanumeric name that identifies a web site on the WWW (World Wide Web aka Internet). The domain can be of any mixture of the 26 letters of the English alphabet, numbers 0-9, and hyphens (-). The domain name cannot begin or end with a hyphen but, can contain one or more hyphens.

Choosing a Domain Name

With the fast growth of the Internet, there are thousnads of domain names registered a day. There is also a chance that the domain name you want is already taken. Depending on the creativity of your domain name, the better chances that that domain name will be unregistered, leaving it open for you.

Shorter domain names are easier to remember and most likely to be remembered to your viewers.

It is safer to have a few domain names picked out. You can either search to see if they are available or you can ask our staff to check the availability of the list of name(s) you would like to register.

Try to register a domain which contains a popular keyword suitable for your industry. This will help your customers or potential customers remember your domain name better.

Try to avoid using domains that contain "2" for "to", "4" for "four", "u" for "you", "i" for "eye" and you know the rest. Your customers will easily get confused and/or fustrated. However, if you insist on registering that sort of a domain name, register the expanded form of the domain as well, i.e. if you are registering ani4ani.com also you can register aneyeforaneye.com.

All domain names are lowercase. You can market your domain name as AnEyeForYou.com, but it will always be searchable as aneyeforyou.com.

Registration Protection

When you have a domain name(s) registered with BPD, we offer a ID Protection Service for $11.95 per year, per domain name.

BONUS: If you purchased a hosting package with BPD, the cost for ID Protection is $9.95 per year, per domain name.

When your domain name is registered you are asked personal information such as your address, phone number, name, and email address. This information is automatically registered in a WHOIS database and can be viewed by anyone seeking information about your domain name. With ID Protect, your information will not be available for viewing. This helps stop SPAM from the SPAM E-Mail senders!

Unlike other domain registration companies, you retain ownership of you domain name.

Registration of domain(s)

When you register a domain name with us, we will just need some basic information to for registration purposes. All information is private and will not be shared. Please read out Privacy Policy for more information.

Transfering domain(s)

If your site is currently hosted by another web host, it's still easy to transfer your account to BlackPort Design. We'll provide you with a unique, static IP number that you can use to upload your web files, set up your e-mail accounts, etc. When you have everything set up the way you want it, you'll just need to modify your domain name record to point to our nameservers, allow 24 - 72 hours for the nameserver update to take effect, and the transfer will be transparent to all your visitors. Once the transfer is complete, just cancel your account with the other web host, and you'll be finished. We can also set up the transfer also for you, we would just need some simple login information and the domain registration URL of the company you purchased your domain name through.

Cost to transfer your domain name? $15.95 set-up fee for the first domain name and $6.95 for each additional domain name transfer

Renewing your domain name

Renewing your domain name is simple. If you registered your domain name through BPD, then you will automatically recieve an email letting you know a month in advanced that your domain name registration is soon to expire. The cost to renew your domain name is $15.95 for 1 year.

We encourage all our clients that decide to renew their domain names, to do so before the expiration date.

What is an Internet domain name registry?

An Internet domain name registry is an entity that receives domain name system (DNS) information from domain name registrars, inserts that information into a centralized database and propagates the information in Internet zone files on the Internet so that domain names can be found by users around the world via applications such as the World Wide Web and email.

Can I use my domain name with email addresses?

Yes you can. You can create any email address using your domain name that you want (including postmaster@your_domain.com).

How does a name server work?

When a domain name is entered into a Web Browser, a name server looks through its records for that domain name and then points the browser to the server that contains the requested website.
